For this year only the procedure for getting your name on the ballot for a Town Officer position will be different. No nominating petitions are required, due to COVID19 concerns. ONLY a candidate CONSENT FORM needs to be submitted to the Town Clerk by January 25. These forms can be obtained from Debra St. Peter, Town Clerk. The Town Officer positions which are open and to be voted on by Australian Ballot are as follows:
Town Moderator – one year term
Town Clerk – three year term
Collector of Delinquent Taxes – one year term
Selectboard – three year term
Lister – three year term
1st Constable – one year term
Due to the COVID19 concerns, the following offices will also be filled by Australian Ballot:
Trustee of Public Funds – one year term remaining in three year term
Trustee of Public Funds – three year term
Trustee of Baxter Memorial Library – three year term
Trustee of the Chester Downer Fund – three year term
This year Debra St. Peter is retiring as Town Clerk. Anyone interested in the office should contact her. The Town Clerk is responsible for maintenance and administration of the voter checklist, presiding over elections, and recording deeds, mortgage liens, surveys, maps, minutes of meetings, and other vital records. The Town Clerk also issues dog licenses and marriage licenses. This position is vital to the functioning of local government, and the Town Clerk works with other local officials, staff, and State personnel to carry out of his or her duties.
